THANK GOD OUR DEMOCRACY HAS TURNED US INTO THE SHINING STAR OF EURASIA

Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, who visited Necati Senturk, the governor of Siirt, in his office, and who was briefed on the problems of the city, in his speech indicated that there was democracy in Turkey and continued his speech saying:

"Thank God our democracy has turned us into the shining star of Eurasia. Thanks to this democracy, the son of a father who pilots a ship in the Bosphorus can now become a Prime Minister. A person who studied at Siirt Mehmetcik Elementary School can become a State Minister who conducts EU negotiations. This is a good example of the fact that everybody living in our country can fill any positions without any discrimination.

In the press conference he held in the Police House, stating that the region experienced the greatest problems and went through every type of war, Bagis said, "I'm not talking about only the last 30-40 years. In the last one thousand years every type of war was fought in these lands. Cold wars, hot wars, espionage wars, gang wars. Thank God now a new process is in progress".

Bagis stated that he also visited Van, Batman and Diyarbakir in the region. He emphasized that the people of the region were content with the broadcasts of TRT 6, the newly built roads and residences, the progresses in education and the access of their children to internet.

Emphasizing that in Canakkale there were not only the martyrs of a specific race, language and religion but also there were the martyrs of every element that built up Turkey, Bagis continued his speech saying:

"In Canakkale, there are the representatives of all races, all languages and all cultures that built up Turkey. We showed a friendly solidarity in Canakkale 94 years ago while defending our country. Today, we should once again show that solidarity while developing our country, carrying it above the limits of contemporary civilizations and paving the way for EU."

AK Party Siirt Deputies Afif Demirkiran and Yilmaz Helvacioglu and the party administration also attended the press conference.
