BAGIS ATTENDS THE DITCHLEY FOUNDATION'S CONFERENCE IN BRİTAİN TURKEY: THE ROAD TO EU MEMBERSHIP
"Turkey: The road to EU Membership" conference was held last week by the Ditchley Foundation. The conference was attended by high level bureucrats and politicians in the desicion making levels of the EU countries, especially from the UK. Egemen Bagis, the only active Turkish politician that attended the meeting commented: "Attended by high officials of the EU countries, majorly from the UK, these meetings were held by the Chatham House rules. The politicians and bureucrats that met here discussed the EU membership process of Turkey. And I relayed my observations on how Turkey and AK Party views this process and with the direction by the support of our society, how it will continue."
Commenting on meetings of foundations and alike, Bagis said: "The attendance of Turkish politicians to meetings of this sort is an application of the Pro-Active policy that we follow in Foreign Affairs. With such practices Turkish policies are discussed in different platforms, therefore shaped before becoming official. Designating policies behind desks were obsolete following the cold war. We, as the AK Party government, rather than constructing foreign policy by 'wait and see' tactics, believe in 'participate-have a say' rather than ."
